Monster Energy (or simply known as Monster) is an American brand of energy drink manufactured by Monster Beverage Company Inc. of Corona, California, which is owned and operated by Hansen Beverage Company and the company's current CEO is Evan Edwards. Though Monster Energy isn't widely advertised in the media it receives a large amount of recognition from its sponsorship of various sporting events.
In 2006, Hansen Natural Corporation announced a distribution agreement with Anheuser-Busch in the U.S. and Cadbury-Bebidas, S.A. de C.V. in Mexico. Hansen Natural Corporation has recently announced a distribution deal with PepsiCo Canada.

Packaging

Monster was one of the first energy drinks marketed in a 16 oz (473 ml) can, nearly twice the size of the typical 8.4 oz (252 ml) size of other energy drinks such as Red Bull, but for around the same price. It was first introduced in the 16 oz can in 2002. Later Monster Energy and Lo-Carb Monster were introduced in a 24 oz (710 ml) can in 2005.
   Also in 2005, all of the original flavors (Monster, Lo-Carb, Khaos, and Assault) except Khaos were introduced in an 8.4 oz can. Since 2005, all four original flavors have been introduced in a 24 oz size, called "XXL" as a promotion for the Billabong XXL surfing competition, though the Mixxd flavor has subsequently appeared in this format without the XXL designation. It is available at most supermarkets and convenience stores in the U.S. and Canada.
   The Coffee hybrid flavors released in 2007 are packaged in a 15 oz (443 ml) can.
   In 2008, the original flavor along with a new flavor, "Heavy Metal", were released in a 32 oz (947 ml) can. The original flavor is called "BFC" in this size, which likely stands for "Big Fucking Can". They also introduced "Mega Monster", a 24 oz size can with a resealable top similar to Jolt Cola's "Battery bottles", for the original and lo-carb flavors.
   In Late March 2008, Monster Energy also released new smaller cans of the same normal six flavors, in a small can, 8.3 oz (250 ml), sold at many convenience stores for a lower price than the typical cans.

Flavors

In addition to the original flavor, there's a Lo-Carb variant that's in a blue color scheme. Lo-carb monster has only 3 grams of carbohydrates - and 10 calories (42 kJ) - per 8 oz (240ml) serving instead of the normal 27 grams. There are also several variations that contain fruit juices.
The first variants available were Khaos and Assault; in orange and red color schemes respectively, and Assault has an urban military camouflage theme in the packaging. Later, an additional variant called M-80 (with a yellow color scheme) was introduced in 16 oz size at the same time as the release of the coffee-energy hybrid flavors.
In 2008 a new flavor called "Heavy Metal" was released tasting similar to the original but with a Sour Apple Taste, exclusively in the 32 oz size. There is also another variant (purple color scheme) called "Mixxd", similar to Khaos except with a grape soda in the 16 oz size.

Java Monster

In March 2007, Hansen launched a sub-category coffee-energy hybrid line of drinks called Java Monster. There were three flavors: Big Black, Loca Moca, and Mean Bean. January 17 2008 saw the release of additional coffee-energy hybrid flavors. "Russian" a White Russian flavor, "Irish Blend", an Irish Cream flavor, "Nut Up", a hazelnut flavor, "Lo-Ball", a low-carb version of "Mean Bean", and "Chai Hai" a Chai Tea.

Ingredients

Monster energy drinks contain Sucralose, a main ingredient in Splenda. The caffeine content of Monster energy drinks is 10 mg/oz (34 mg/dL, 1.75 mmol/L), or 160 mg for a 16 oz can. Like some other energy drinks the packaging usually has a warning printed on it saying to limit the number of cans consumed in a day - to 3 for the 16 oz size, and it isn't recommended for pregnant women, children, or others sensitive to caffeine.
Ingredients: Carbonated Water, Sucrose (table sugar), Glucose (broken down sucrose), Citric Acid(organic preservative), Natural Flavors, Taurine, Sodium Citrate, Color Added, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, L-Carnitine, Caffeine, Sorbic Acid, benzoic acid, Niacinamide, Sodium Chloride, Glucuronolactone, Insitol, Guarana Seed Extract, Pyridoxine, Hydrochloride, Sucralose, Riboflavin, Maltodextrin, and Levotyroxine & Cyancobalamin.
